PARKER
IN THE PARK
11:00 am - Noon
Parker
in the Park
weaves the
environmentally-friendly songs of the popular Billy B.
into a 40-minute, interactive, musical experience! Using
the frame-work of the wildly successful
School House Rock Live!,
this is an energetic, four-person show about conserving
energy, exploring nature and protecting our environment.
The
setting is a school before the largest celebration of
the year—the Festival in the Park! Join Parker as he
discovers ideas for exploring science and nature with
his buddies, Billy, Kayla and Courtney. Tap your toes
and hum along as they sing and dance through the city
park while learning about bees, trees, sprouts,
seeds, the Earth’s orbit, photosynthesis, cicadas,
butterflies, conserving energy, and protecting our
environment!

STRICTLY
JUG NUTS
Noon-1pm
A
genuine jug band, Strictly Jug Nuts plays mostly
acoustic instruments. Some instruments are homemade,
including a kazoo made from a SPAM can; a drum set
fashioned from an old, hard-sided suitcase; various
aluminum bowls scavenged from resale shops and rummage
sales; a bass made from an old, tin washtub and
broomstick; rhythm instruments such as spoons, empty
jars and coconut halves; an accessorized washboard; and,
of course, a jug!
The attire for the
band – old and colorful ties and vintage dresses and
hats – comes mostly from resale shops. Strictly Jug Nuts
plays recycled music, songs from the old jug band
masters from the first half of the last century, as well
as songs borrowed from newer writers and bands and those
written by Strictly Jug Nuts just for the occasion!

RICKY RECYCLE
1pm-2pm
Ricky
Recycle is a dynamic, high-energy, fun-filled,
interactive and educational program using word,
song, comedy and extreme zaniness to teach all
the benefits of recycling. Ricky covers where
materials come from, how they are processed into
products, and how those materials are
re-processed into new and sometimes unexpected
goods.
A
past show attendee remarked that “I especially
liked the way the messages are tied in with
upbeat rhythms and music that adults can also
enjoy.” Another wrote, “Ricky connects so well
with his audience by making the learning
experience fun. The interaction and pace
kept every child involved yet incredibly focused
on the material.”

TRASHY FASHION SHOW
2p.m.
Students of District 219
present the Trashy Fashion Show, clothing and
accessories made from plastic bags, magazines, bubble
wrap, pop tabs, food wrappers and more. All of the
outfits are made from things that normally would be
destined for a landfill or recycling bin.
Niles North and Niles West High school students will
showcase their creative talents and model their unique
designs. See dresses crafted out of store receipts, old
sewing patterns, caution tape and Klondike bar wrappers.
It has been said, “Just because we can throw things
away, doesn’t mean we should.” See the results of that
philosophy at the Trashy Fashion Show!
